2025 Spring Scholarship Winner – Olivia Blaylock, Class of 2026

I remember when I toured A&M my junior year of high school. I was so lost on where to
go to school, and so far no schools felt like the right fit. As I was walking around Texas A&M,
there was nowhere I went where I wasn’t greeted with a “Howdy”. That simple phrase made me
feel such a belonging to something so big. “Howdy” is so much more than a phrase, but it is
what unites the Aggie family. To me, it signifies the fact that we embrace the world with open
arms and a smile. It doesn’t matter who you are, but you are seen and welcomed. That is the
attitude that Aggies bring into the world: love, respect, and compassion for everyone. That same
perspective is what feeds into the rest of the traditions here at Aggieland. The saying, “Starts
with a ‘Howdy’ and ends with a ‘Here’” fully represents what being an Aggie is. An Aggie is
always an Aggie and will always be remembered. That is why we have traditions like Silver
Taps, Aggie Muster, and Bonfire Memorial. However, an Aggie also realizes that life is about the
life you live and not the death you die. That mentality fuels us to make a positive impact on this
world, spreading respect and kindness, and we do that with one “Howdy” at a time.
